At the Roots of Product Placement: The Mere Exposure Effect

2013

The present study aims to analyze the effect of product placement on attitude change and takes into consideration psychological models of the mere exposure effect. A sample of high school students watched an excerpt from two widely-distributed movies in which several products were shown by using the technique known as product placement. The results indicate that students who saw the commercial brand liked the products more than those who didn’t see it. This effect, in line with the literature on the product placement effect, seems to be independent from the recognition of the brand in the movie excerpt. This study also shows that, in the high involvement condition, one exposure is enough to…

Effects of canopy covering on yield and quality of ‘Nero d’Avola’ (Vitis vinifera L.) grown in hot-arid climate condition

The impact of climate change on grapevine ecophysiology and vineyard management is predicted to be a serious problem in the next years. In fact, it has an influence on the fruit-set, yield, and in modulating decoupling between technological and phenolic ripening. Thus, it is essential to identify costeffective and easy-to-implement solutions to deal with the issue. For this purpose, the present study aims to test different shade treatments (ST) applied directly to the canopy of ′Nero d’Avola′ cultivar (Vitis vinifera L.), trying to limit the excess of light and heat that, usually occur in hot-arid climate areas as in Sicily. Two ST were imposed during the 2020 vegetative season from fruit s…

Effectuation Logic in Digital Business Model Transformation : Insights from Japanese High-Tech Innovators

2019

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study how digital business models evolve when entrepreneurs move to new digital platforms and how this evolution is related to effectuation and causation logics. Design/methodology/approach This study applies a multiple case study approach to investigate how digital business models change in small, Japanese high-tech firms providing their innovations through different digital platforms. To investigate digital business models, this study considers the elements that comprise general business models. The case firms were selected based on size, products and transitions from physical to various digital platforms. Semi-structured interviews were conducted …

Global mapping of randomised trials related articles published in high-impact-factor medical journals: a cross-sectional analysis

2020

[Background]: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) provide the most reliable information to inform clinical practice and patient care. We aimed to map global clinical research publication activity through RCT-related articles in high-impact-factor medical journals over the past five decades.

Muscle Oxygen Delivery in the Forearm and in the Vastus Lateralis Muscles in Response to Resistance Exercise: A Comparison Between Nepalese Porters a…

2020

Altitude ascending represents an intriguing experimental model reproducing physiological and pathophysiological conditions sharing hypoxemia as the denominator. The aim of the present study was to investigate fractional oxygen extraction and blood dynamics in response to hypobaric hypoxia and to acute resistance exercises, taking into account several factors including different ethnic origin and muscle groups. As part of the “Kanchenjunga Exploration & Physiology” project, six Italian trekkers and six Nepalese porters took part in a high altitude trek in the Himalayas. The measurements were carried out at low (1,450 m) and high altitude (HA; 4,780 m). Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)-d…

Implantation of a custom intraocular lens with a 30-diopter torus for the correction of high astigmatism after penetrating keratoplasty.

2003

Abstract We present a 62-year-old woman who had implantation of an intraocular lens (IOL) with a torus of 30.0 diopters (D) in an eye after penetrating keratoplasty. The patient presented with cataract and a best corrected visual acuity of 20/400. Penetrating keratoplasty was performed in 1975 because of decompensated keratoconus. With a clear but inferiorly decentered corneal graft, visual acuity was limited because of keratoplasty-related high corneal astigmatism of 22.5@156 that could not be successfully treated with spectacles or contact lenses. A custom toric IOL with –30.0 D of cylindrical power was implanted in the capsular bag via a sclerocorneal tunnel incision. Additionally, a sph…

Inter-individual different responses to continuous and interval training in recreational middle-aged women runners

2020

A crucial subject in sports is identifying the inter-individual variation in response to training, which would allow creating individualized pre-training schedules, improving runner’s performance. We aimed to analyze heterogeneity in individual responses to two half-marathon training programs differing in running volume and intensity in middle-aged recreational women. 20 women (40 ± 7 years, 61 ± 7 kg, 167 ± 6 cm, and VO2max = 48 ± 6 mL⋅kg–1⋅min–1) underwent either moderate-intensity continuous (MICT) or high-intensity interval (HIIT) 12-week training. They were evaluated before and after training with maximal incremental tests in the laboratory (VO2max) and in the field (time to exhaustion…

Postural Adaptations in Preadolescent Karate Athletes Due to a One Week Karate Training Camp

2013

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of an increasing number of training hours of specific highintensity karate training on postural sway in preadolescent karate athletes. Seventy-four karatekas were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups: Karate Group (KG=37): age 10.29±1.68 yrs; or Control Group (CG= 37): age 10.06±1.77 yrs. The KG performed two sessions per day for 1 week in total, while the CG performed only 3 sessions during the same period. The center-of-pressure length (COPL) and velocity (COPV) were recorded under four different experimental conditions: open eyes (EO), closed eyes (EC), open eyes monopodalic left (EOL), open eyes monopodalic right (EOR), pre as w…
